The Assam Mathematics Olympiad is a prestigious state-level mathematical competition organized by the Assam Academy of Mathematics for students of classes V – XI in three categories, namely, Category - I(Classes V - VI), Category - II(Classes VII – VIII), Category – III(Classes IX – XI). It is designed to test the mathematical understanding and problem solving skills of the students. The questions are mainly based on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, number theory, combinatorics, sets, relations and functions.
The competition is also aimed at giving a platform of self evaluation to the students preparing for Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) conducted under the mathematical Olympiad programme of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai. IOQM is the first stage of the selection process for International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). It is followed by the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) and Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO).
This year the AMO will be held in 52 centres across Assam. Interested students can choose any of the centres and submit the filled in application form to the centre coordinator of the desired exam centre. The list of centre coordinators, their addresses and contact details are mentioned in the Application form. Interested students are also advised to visit the AAM website or visit the link for the syllabus and past question papers & solutions. The centre coordinators will also provide free training/workshops for the registered participants, subject to the availability of resource persons and a good number of registered applicants.
