Major Activities
Over the years, the Assam Academy of Mathematics has undertaken various initiatives, including:
1. Annual Congress:
The Academy meets in the Annual Congress once a year in different parts of the state. The General Secretary of AAM presents the activity report in the General Body meeting. The treasurer presents the audited financial report in the GB meeting.
2. Assam Mathematics Olympiad (AMO)
A flagship event of AAM, the Assam Mathematics Olympiad has been conducted annually since 1987 to identify and nurture mathematical talent among school students. It aims to prepare students for national and international Olympiads, providing them with exposure to non-routine problem-solving and advanced mathematical thinking. AMO has served as a platform to develop the mathematical skills of many young talents of the state and help them shine at the national and international levels. In 2024, a total of 8785 candidates participated in the prestigious state-level competition held in 55 centres across the state.
3. Workshops and Seminars
AAM regularly organizes workshops, seminars, and popular lectures across various districts of Assam, aiming to update and motivate teachers and students in mathematics education. Eminent mathematicians are invited to deliver lectures, and interactive sessions are held to stimulate interest in the subject.

4. Foundation Day Celebrations
The Foundation Day of the Academy is celebrated each year on 18th July with lectures from distinguished mathematicians and discussions on advancing mathematics education in the state. The Academy has been honouring distinguished Mathematics educators of the state by felicitating them from time to time.
5. Publications
Ganit Bikash: AAM publishes Ganit Bikash, a popular tri-monthly bilingual magazine on Mathematics since 1987. The first volume of Ganit Bikash,edited by (Late)Prof.Amala Bezbaruah was released during the first Annual Congress of the Academy held on 18-19 July 1987. Since then Ganit Bikash has appeared regularly twice a year until the July-December issue 2020. Starting from the January 2021 issue, Ganit Bikash is now published quarterly.

The Journal of the Assam Academy of Mathematics (JAAM): The Academy publishes an open-access research journal, “The Journal of the Assam Academy of Mathematics (JAAM)”. The first volume of the journal was published in 2010 under the Chief editorship of Prof. B. P. Chetiya and Editor Prof. N. R. Das. The journal website: https://jaam.aamonline.org.in/index.php/j
Newsletter: The Academy has been publishing an annual Newsletter to document and showcase the various academic and organizational activities of the AAM.
Books: In addition to the periodicals, the Academy has been regularly publishing academic books on Mathematics. All the published books are freely available on the AAM website. The dedicated weblink to AAM publications: https://aamonline.org.in/publications/
6. National Mathematics Day Celebration:
Every year, the Academy celebrates the National Mathematics Day on 22nd December with lectures from distinguished mathematicians. The Rank holders of the Assam Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) are awarded at the celebration program.
All the branches of the Academy also observe the National Mathematics Day by organizing lectures, Quiz competitions, Exhibitions on Mathematics, and different competitions related to Mathematics.
7. International Day of Mathematics
The Mathematics community in the world celebrates the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) on 14th March. The Academy and its branches also celebrate the International Day of Mathematics on the same day by conducting lectures and various competitions on Mathematics.
8. Sponsored Award
The Academy provides some special sponsored awards:
1. Dr. Subratananda Duwerah Memorial Gold Medal Award to the topper of the AMO in category 3.
2. Haliram Dutta Memorial Cash Award (Earlier Haliram Dutta Memorial Gold Medal) to the highest aggregate mark scorer among students who scored the highest marks in mathematics in the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.
3. Hari Prasad Saikia Memorial Cash Award to the toppers in undergraduate mathematics honours examinations under Dibrugarh University and Gauhati University.
